Zest Quest Asia has today been announced as the beneficiary of the 2022 H&C News Golf Day in association with Meiko UK. The day will generate funds to further promote Asian cooking in UK schools, colleges, and universities.

Zest Quest Asia is an annual competition for student chefs to showcase their talent founded in 2013 by Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala.

On launch the competition was known as the ‘Asian Junior Chefs Challenge’. The following year it became Zest Quest Asia, offering a totally fresh approach to student culinary competitions.

The competition focuses on Asian cuisines, emphasising knowledge and practical cooking prowess in equal measure, enabling the winning student chef team to experience an educational journey to an Asian culinary destination.

Schools, colleges, and university student teams from across the UK have competed every year for the Zest Quest Asia crown, and in doing so consolidate their careers in hospitality.

The furtherment of culinary education in schools, colleges, and universities underpins the hope of all in the industry to welcome more students into a career in hospitality. As such H&C News and Meiko UK are delighted to help further the work done to date by Pervin, Cyrus, and the Zest Quest Asia team.

Paul Anderson, Managing Director, Meiko UK told us why Zest Quest Asia is so close to his heart saying: “At a time when people and skills shortages in hospitality are more acute than ever, nurturing young talent is now even more vital. Meiko have supported Pervin and Cyrus’ Zest Quest Asia for many years, in 2022 we will build on that through the H&C News Golf Day.

“Having attended and taken part for many years, not only is it a great day of golf at The Belfry, the Belfry’s chefs also provide a sumptuous dinner in the evening.

“Most importantly, the event raises thousands of pounds every year for industry causes and in 2022 I am delighted that Zest Quest Asia will be the beneficiary.”

On hearing the news of Zest Quest Asia’s selection Cyrus Todiwala told us: “Pervin and I are overjoyed that Zest Quest Asia is the chosen charity of the H&C News Golf Day in July. We know that choices like this are not made lightly, and so would like to thank Denis, Angela and the team at H&C News, and Paul and the Meiko team for their wonderful and consistent support through the years.

“Any funds raised at the golf day will help us to realise a dream we have harboured for years. That is of directly investing in Asian culinary education in the UK through a grant or bursary, so that more young people can explore new worlds and new opportunities and hopefully seek careers in our great hospitality industry. To our friends and supporters who are keen golfers or simply share Zest Quest Asia’s goals, do please get involved by taking part in this fabulous, fun event.”

The day takes place at The Belfry Hotel & Resort on 7th July 2022, nine four-ball teams from across hospitality have already booked, and nine four-ball teams are still available.

A four-ball team costs £895 + VAT and includes a round of golf and a three course dinner in the evening. Framed certificates of participation are awarded to all teams, with trophies for – the longest drive – nearest the pin – and the team with the best score.

To secure your team place just complete the form at the bottom of the H&C News page here, and a member of the H&C News team will be in touch.
